Minimum & Maximum Values on an Interval

Once again the calculus concepts in this section are pretty straight forward.  Find the derivative, set it to zero, solve for the variable to find where the horizontal tangent occurs.  You must remember to test the endpoints of the interval though as the true absolute max/min could occur at an endpoint rather than where f'(x) = 0.

HOMEWORK:  Page 135 - 138, #'s 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.

NOTE 1)  Make sure you go back and read the work out examples on pages 132 - 134

NOTE 2)  In preparation for our classes after the March Break please read over section 3.3 and 3.4 (it make take a couple of times through) in order to get an idea of the Application Problems that we will be covering.  Some are real doozies.
